Ecopetrol S.A. is Colombia’s largest integrated oil and gas company and one of the most important energy producers in Latin America. The company operates across the entire energy value chain, including exploration and production of oil and natural gas, pipeline transportation, refining, petrochemicals, and fuel distribution. Founded in 1951 and partially privatized in 2003, Ecopetrol is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange while remaining majority-owned by the Colombian government. Although oil and gas remain its core business, the company has been gradually expanding into power transmission, biofuels, and renewable energy as part of a long-term energy transition strategy.
